  • The Troy Lighting B1404 bulbs are not visible when mounted Horizontal. You change the bulbs by sliding the glass out of the fixture.

How do you change the bulbs? Do you have to remove the glass or do you reach behind it? Are the bulbs visible if mounted horizontal above a bathroom vanity?

  • The Troy Lighting B1404 does have different glass depending on which finish you order. Also, the graphite finish should be a little lighter than the French Iron.

I am confused about the appearance of this light. In the pictures, the metal trim appears to be the same. The French Iron version shows up with a pinkish light, the Graphie with a white light. Not sure what that means, can you describe it better?

  • The Troy Lighting B1404 should be able to be installed vertically no problem.

Can you install the Troy B1404 vertically also? I like the size of it.

Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Fixture! I needed a slim fixture to install between two mirrors in my bathroom and this one looked like it would work. It arrived only a few days after I ordered it and it's perfect! Great quality, easy to install and it looks amazing! I installed it vertically and there is a high ceiling in the room, so I don't have the problem other reviewers mentioned about changing the bulbs. However, since it's held in place by only two screws, I think it would be easy to unscrew and pull away from the wall those few times you need to change bulbs. I was also a little confused by the reviewer who made the bulbs sound difficult to find. Although it uses smaller bulbs, they are standard and easy to find at Home Depot. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful but be careful about size! I had a lot of limitations on this light purchase. I wanted at least four bulbs in a fixture that had to fit in about 7" above a cabinet. The fixture could not overhang the cabinet. I really like that LightingDirect.com allowed me to filter lights that way and I was able to find this one. A little on the high end of my bathroom lighting budget but cool-looking, so we went with it (the graphite and white one). The key thing to be careful about is the space in which you put this light. The FAQ indicate that you have to slide the glass out to get to the lightbulbs and that is true. So you really need almost two feet of clearance for this to be easy. We don't have two feet as we put this fixture in a 50" wide space. It is *very* hard to get the glass in and out (we initially wondered how are contractor had done it). We ended up bending the light receptacles a little to get it to work. The other thing I was disappointed by was the size of the bulb it could accommodate. It takes a standard base but A15 (a little "ceiling fan" size bulb). I must have mis-read the info because I had been looking for a fixture that would take a "normal" bulb. We only use CFLs and were able to find a 40 W bulb made by Philips that was a "smaller size" (Home Depot's description lists them as Philips Energy Saver 9-Watt (40W) CFL Twister Light Bulb (4-Pack)). They were a perfect fit and with an 11-year warranty, we hope we won't have to pull that glass off often. A final note if you plan to put this in vertically rather than horizontally like we did. You will need that same clearance to remove the glass because of the way it stays in. The tube has a slit that goes about 2/3 of the way down its length. It is the closed part resting on the frame of the fixture that would keep it from sliding through in the vertical position. Thus, you must mount the light almost two feet from the ceiling. Maybe that would be okay as a scone-style light in a very large space, but just be careful.
