The Sonneman 3830 bulb is changed by removing the screw on the top and the bottom of the glass and pulling the glass forward.

The Sonneman 3830 I believe screws in from the back of the shade, but I can call Sonneman tomorrow to get a definte answer for you. As far as the clearance, this extends 4" from the wall.
