Ten Light Chandelier from the Roman Empire Collection
The styling of Schonbek's Roman Empire crystal chandelier dates back to the Napoleonic era. Decorative elements repeat motifs that fascinated the Greco-Roman artisans of antiquity.
The chandelier is crowned by Bohemian cut crystal leaves suggestive of the laurel wreaths awarded to winners of the Pythian games. The crystal leaf motif is repeated in the gallery. Note the ornate banding with an acanthus leaf pattern of the sort that adorns many a Corinthian capital.
