How wide is the fitter

Can you use CFL bulbs in this fixture?

Is the centre round cover called the fitter? If so, is it really only 2 1/2 " wide as that would barely cover the elecrtical box?
A. A fitter is the lip-shaped part of the shade that slips into the fixture and is held in place by fitter screws. Common fitter sizes (diameters) are 2¼", 3¼", 4" and 6". The fitter and shade holder sizes are the determining factors in pairing fixtures with shades. I believe you are referring to the cover plate which is approximately five inches.

Perfect!
I used two of these. One over each sink in a master bath. After shopping all the big box stores and not finding the quality I wanted I decided to do some internet shopping. I love these lights! They are of excellent quality! The shades are excellent quality alabaster glass and the base truly chrome. Worth the money!

Great light for powder room
This light was the perfect size for my powder room. It was easy to install, and the quality was very good. It arrived in a timely fashion, and was packaged very well to avoid damage.
