Can this be used with a dimmer? Can you substitute flourescents?

How high is this fixture from base of glass to ceiling?

It indicates below that fluorescent bulbs cannot be used. Does this also include CFL bulbs? If they can fit into the fixture, why can they not be used?
A. CFL bulbs dont use a medium base like this light does, so they will not fit. From what I gather, this is meant for incandescent, and thus does not use an electronic ballast. Fluorescent requires an electronic ballast to function anyway.

Great Fixture!
This fixture was the perfect addition to our foyer. It is modern and looks very expensive. It was also fairly easy to install.
