A. I called and talked to Delta about this question. They referred me to their specification sheet because they can't give out clearance information over the phone. They said if the specification sheet's dimensions don't help to call their technical assistance and they can help you out with all questions.

Perfect Solution!
This faucet was an excellent choice for the single hole installation on our marble vanity top. It was a first purchase at FaucetDirect.com. Their prices are great and everything from the ordering process to shipping went effortlessly. I would definitely consider this company and this product manufacturer in the future!

Delta 578-DST Nice faucet but not without flaws
When choosing a faucet for our bath remodel I wanted single lever control, ceramic disk valve, all metal construction and simple elegant design. This fit the bill perfect. This faucet is heavy and solid feeling when you hold it.
Before I discuss the minor negatives I found I want to let you know that I have a very keen eye for detail and notice things that most never see. One issue is the seat that is cast into the bottom of the base where the gasket sits to seal against the vanity top is not level. So when you tighten it down it does not sit perfectly perpendicular to the vanity top... It tilts to the right ever so slightly. The other issue is the indent in the stem coming out of the valve; its a flat spot on the stem where the set screw for the handle tightens down on. Its offset slightly of center, maybe about a degree to two to the left. So when you tighten the set screw the handle is off center ever so slighty. Again both of these items will never be noticed by most. My wife didn't notice until 6 weeks after it was installed when I pointed it out. She said "I don't know how you notice these things"
So in summary, we are very happy with the faucet and overall its solid and a joy to use but at this price you would think they could of eliminated the minor flaws I found which is why I give it 3 stars.
